As of my last update in September 2021, Odisha, a state in eastern India, is known for its rich cultural heritage, temples, natural beauty, and vibrant traditions. There are several fantastic tourist places to visit in Odisha. Here are some of the best ones:
Puri:
Puri is famous for the Jagannath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu temples in India. The annual Rath Yatra (Chariot festival) here attracts millions of devotees and tourists from around the world. Puri also has beautiful beaches, such as Puri Beach and Chandrabhaga Beach.
Konark:
The Sun Temple at Konark is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an architectural marvel. It is designed in the shape of a massive chariot with intricately carved stone wheels and sculptures. Konark Beach nearby is also worth visiting.
Bhubaneswar:
The capital city of Odisha is known for its ancient temples, including the Lingaraj Temple, Mukteshwar Temple, and Rajarani Temple. These temples exhibit exquisite Kalinga architecture.
Chilika Lake:
Chilika is Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and a significant wintering ground for migratory birds. It is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
Cuttack:
Known as the Silver City, Cuttack has a rich history and offers attractions like the Barabati Fort, Netaji Birthplace Museum, and Dhabaleswar Island.
Raghurajpur:
This heritage village is famous for its traditional Pattachitra paintings and handicrafts. It's an excellent place to witness Odisha's art and cultural heritage.
Simlipal National Park:
Located in Mayurbhanj district, Simlipal is a tiger reserve and a biodiversity hotspot. It's an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Daringbadi:
Often referred to as the "Kashmir of Odisha," Daringbadi is a hill station surrounded by lush green valleys, coffee plantations, and waterfalls.
Gopalpur-on-Sea:
This beach destination offers a tranquil environment and is perfect for those seeking a peaceful coastal vacation.
Ratnagiri, Udayagiri, and Lalitgiri:
These three places are collectively known as the Diamond Triangle and are famous for their Buddhist monasteries and stupas.
Keep in mind that tourism preferences and situations might change over time. It is advisable to check the current status and reviews of these places before planning your visit.
